But what is it about the 2023 Toyota Corolla that sets it apart from previous models? Read on and get up to speed as we focus on the latest version and some of its new features.
What’s new about the Toyota Corolla?
On the whole, few drastic changes have been made with the 2023 Corolla. Though the changes that have been made aim to improve the estate’s technology and efficiency.
The bumper has been given a slight refresh to accommodate the new LED headlights, and there have also been some updates to the crash structure and suspension.
Other exterior design changes of the Corolla include:
- New alloy wheels including 16” silver 10-spoke wheels for the Icon trim, and 17” black machined multi-spoke for the Design trim.

All lights inside the new Corolla are now LEDs, giving the interior a crisp, brighter feel while using a reduced power output for efficiency.
When it comes to safety, the new Toyota Corolla makes several changes, including the addition of low-speed Accelerator Suppression, Emergency Steering Assist, Safe Exit Assist, and more. Together, these safety features help make you more aware of oncoming vehicles or pedestrians, enhancing onboard safety.
Then, of course, there’s the new hybrid system coming into play, perhaps the most crucial upgrade to this iconic model.
What’s different with the Corolla’s hybrid system?
The new 2023 Toyota Corolla represents the fifth generation of self-charging hybrid technology from the manufacturer, with several changes made to improve performance and efficiency.
These include a new power control unit and transaxle designs, plus a more powerful lithium-ion battery with a 14% improved output.
It’s placed at the rear of the vehicle which does mean some compromise on boot space - though it does still offer plenty of space to store luggage with up to 361 litres.
The newly improved battery offers quieter, more efficient performance. The 1.8-litre model offers 140bhp, while the 2.0-litre version offers up to 196bhp.
Both versions also offer improved fuel economy allowing you to get more miles per gallon. This is between 57.6 - 62.7mpg with the 1.8-litre engine, and 58.8 - 64.1mpg with the 2.0-litre engine. Together, these changes make the new 2023 Toyota Corolla smoother to drive, more practical, and efficient.
