Introducing the Nissan Qashqai E-Power
The Nissan Qashqai E-Power is the new kid on the block (or the rank!), in terms of both build and technology. For a starter, it sees a record-breaking 2.1kWh battery inside, which is a step up from the smaller 1.3kWh battery of the Toyota C-HR.
But that’s not all. It also happens to be facilitated by a 1.5-litre inline-three combustion engine, which powers the front-mounted motor - not the wheels.
Nissan calls this the ‘VC Turbo’ engine, referring to Variable Compression. This sees the pistons joined to the crankshaft with motor-driven components which alter the position of the pistons from top and bottom.
Referred to by Nissan as the ‘electric car that you can fill up with petrol’, this new type of powertrain doesn’t require recharging through plugging in as with Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs). The role of the engine is simply to power a front-mounted electric motor which will then power the wheels.
This enables an engine that can utilize high compression for enhanced performance, or low compression for better fuel economy to save on fuel costs. It’s the best of both worlds and a new way for you to tailor your drive to suit you.
Nissan Qashqai E-Power Performance
With the engine working to charge the battery, this helps the Nissan Qashqai E-Power produce 187bhp and 300Nm torque, going from 0-60mph in just 7.9 seconds. This is a lot of power for this type of vehicle, taking the Qashqai range to the next level, and potentially your taxi service.
Reaching speed limits on busier roads with ease, this new tech-savvy Qashqai achieves a much smoother drive with easy transition, hugging curves and bends comfortably.
The sound produced by this vehicle is also next to none - you’ll only notice a slight sound in stop/start traffic as the engine runs at a higher RPM. It passes less vibrations in comparison to other hybrid engines.
Not only great for your comfort and convenience, but also that of your passengers, giving them a smoother, more enjoyable journey where they can sit back and relax.
The Nissan Qashqai E-Power also makes use of a feature called ‘Linear Tune’ which helps to set the engine speed in line with the speed limit of the road you’re travelling on.
Other useful features to help create a drive with ease also include the ‘I-Pedal’ feature, which works to increase the energy generated when lifting off the pedal which brings the car to a crawl gently and smoothly.
Unlike the fully electric Nissan ARIYA and Nissan LEAF, the brake pedal in the Qashqai is what will bring the car to a full stop rather than simply lifting off.
Despite this, it’s relatively simple to drive and could be a lot easier than getting to grips with a one-pedal automatic right away.
Though it uses revolutionary technology, the Nissan Qashqai still promises hints of familiarity to welcome all drivers, no matter their previous style of driving. It’s the closest you’ll get to an electric car while still maintaining a traditional engine.
Nissan Qashqai E-Power Convenience
The Nissan Qashqai E-Power brings with it a wealth of added benefits to your workday, which are not to be missed.
It gives you all the benefits of an electric vehicle without the fear of ‘range anxiety’. This makes it ideal for city driving, bringing you a smoother, quieter, and more efficient drive – all the benefits of an electric vehicle without the need to recharge.
You’ll also benefit from greater efficiency and a more sustainable service to offer your passengers, thanks to the Nissan Qashqai E-Power’s relatively low emissions of 119g/km of CO2. With 53.3mpg you can also expect greater fuel economy since the engine is not relied on to power the wheels directly.
For improved sustainable motoring, there is even a full EV mode which draws power mainly from the electric battery, though this will only kick in at lower speeds. The Nissan Qashqai E-Power will cleverly revert back to the standard hybrid drive train elsewhere in order to help you drive more efficiently.
The engine will only kick in automatically when your battery charge drops below a certain level, hence eradicating the fear of range anxiety that comes from driving an all-electric vehicle.
Nissan Qashqai E-Power Design
What you may not have noticed is that the new Nissan Qashqai E-Power also benefits from a larger body shape, enhanced by 35mm in length, 32mm in width, and 25mm in height.
This results in a broader, more spacious vehicle that is ideal for a taxi. There’s plenty more space to welcome your customers inside, and of course, several specification features to improve your workday.
These include the ‘NissanConnect’ 9.0” touchscreen display which offers Apple Wireless Car Play so you can play music easily. Models further up the scale will benefit from a 12.3” screen and 10.8” head-up display to keep handy road information at eye level.
The centre console has also been thoughtfully designed giving you plenty of space to store items readily at hand.
As for your passengers, they will benefit from 608mm of knee room, meaning there will be plenty of space to relax and enjoy the ride.
The boot space also sees an upgrade from previous models, meaning you won’t have to compromise on space and storage. This is rated at 500 litres, which gives you adequate storage for passenger luggage and more, with a compartment beneath the floor large enough to store the parcel shelf.
