2. A new era of Mobility with Air Taxis
Air Taxi Takes flight
The air taxi firm has launched a new service as part of its platform, introduced in 2022 during the World Cup in Qatar. The service offers transportation from the Son Bonet aerodrome, Mallorca, to Ibiza, in a Eurocopter AS 350.
The aircraft can fit up to five people, and the charge for the journey is 7,200 euros, so it’s slightly more expensive than a traditional taxi service!
The company also plans to introduce electric vertical take-off and landing planes (eVTOLs) for travel between the two islands. This aims to reduce the friction of travel that comes with normal on-the-ground services and provide a more effective means of transportation.
Working with network management company Bluenest, NextNorth hopes to bring about a new era of mobility that could lead to more of these services in the future. For customers, it will also help them travel in style!
A new era of Mobility with Air Taxis
Flying taxis may sound like a bit of a stretch, though the concept isn’t actually as new as it seems.
In a recent article, we looked at the possibility of flying taxis in major UK cities, which could be seen as early as 2026.
According to Mckinsey Insights, leading Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) operators could be managing larger fleets. This would allow them to deliver more flights per day than some of the world’s leading airlines by 2030.
Current eVTOLs in production can carry up to six passengers including the pilot. They are also expected to deliver shorter journey times of around 18 minutes on average. However, there are some operational challenges yet to be addressed, before the plans come to fruition.
It’s also expected that these could be available as soon as 2024, and will offer a safe, reliable, affordable, and eco-friendly means of travel.
The eVTOL models include the VX4 produced by Vertical Aerospace, and Eve, from the Brazilian manufacturer, Embraer.
